This book is a useful guide to shrubs in the Northern Plains that can be used in landscape planting around homes and businesses. It is divided into five main sections: deciduous and broadleaf evergreen shrubs, vines, conifer shrubs, a list of plants with adaptive or ornamental characteristics, and a summer key to shrubs. The first three sections provide descriptions, pictures, and growing information. Plants are arranged alphabetically by botanical names, rather than by common names, since most shrubs have more than one common name but all have only a single botanical name. Included are Lakota names, when known, for adapted native shrubs. 110 color pages.
